Workplace Stress Relief Tips
As a mental health therapist, I live for finding
workplace stress relief tips. Trust me, in this profession, it's
absolutely necessary to take care of yourself.
Because it's important to take care of myself in order
to care for others, I have taught myself several stress relief
techniques to keep myself mentally, emotionally, and physically stable.
And I will share all of the tips with you here.
My day consists of a lot of listening, guiding, and
providing therapeutic advice for emotional, mental, physical, and
financial problems. And because of this, I need all the energy that I
can get to "really" help others.
So, how do I get this energy and control my stress?
By these simple workplace stress relief tips...
Workplace Stress Relief Tips:
- Have a passion for what you do.
If you do not have a strong passion for your work, stress will be
harder to handle. I believe that passion and purpose are my strongest
motivators for dealing with the stress of my work. Of course, there are
several other ways to deal with workplace stress, but passion for your
career is the most important.
- Develop a strong faith in a
higher power.
A client and I were talking about dealing with stress at work and I
mentioned to him that he imagine that he is working for "God" or a
"higher power" rather than his agency or his boss. When you have a
bigger picture in mind, it's always easier to avoid letting the littler
things get to you throughout the day.
- Find something positive about
your job.
What is it that you enjoy about your work? Why did you pick this
career? Spend your time focusing on the positive aspects about your
work and you'll be less likely to focus on the negative aspects.
Negativity is the root of all stress.
- Avoid joining in with gossip.
In order to keep yourself stress free from gossip, change the subject,
listen, or walk away from any conversation where there is gossip
involved. Do not take on anymore stress than you need too. Always keep
in mind, avoiding gossip gives you more energy to invest in important
issues that "really" matter.
- Look for a peaceful, quiet
place to regain your sanity.
One of the best workplace stress relief tips is to give yourself time
to recuperate from the daily grind. My form of peace and quiet is
shutting my office door, sitting in my rocking chair, and doing nothing
for at least 10 minutes. I always feel refreshed afterward. It's
important to give yourself a moment in the day where there is no work
involved, even if it's just 5 minutes.
- Stretch
I love stretching! I practice Yoga on my office floor when I need a
"pick me up." Stretching is an excellent technique for relieving stress
and it's very simple to do.
- Take Action.
Remember the only way to accomplish any of these workplace stress
relief tips is by taking action.
