Self Love:

The Importance of Loving Who You Are!

Self love is a very important skill to learn and it is also the "core" requirement for living a life of peace and happiness!

Unfortunately, this "important" skill is often neglected in the home and in the schools--the two primary teaching environments!

On the contrary, it's not uncommon to learn the complete opposite skill of self love in these environments--self-hate!

Here are some common examples kids learn within the home and the school...

  • "I need to be more like my brother!"
  • "In order for people to like me I have to be a cheerleader or the captain of the football team!"
  • "I need nice clothes so people will like me."
  • "I need to be attractive so I can get a date."
  • "My mother believes that I am lazy. I guess she is right, I'll never be worth anything!"

However, in order for you to develop love for yourself, you will need to disregard all of those negative perceptions about yourself. Believe that you are a unique person--like a blue rose in a field of wild flowers.

Always believe in your abilities and uniqueness and you'll find yourself in places that you have always dreamed of! Also, keep in mind that it's important to be your own best friend during the times when you feel like your own worst enemy!

Stay tuned for more articles on how to develop love for yourself! In the meantime, tell yourself that you are an amazing person regardless of the mistakes you have made and all the disappointments you have faced--and you'll be a great example of what love for the self is!
