Thank God you got out of that house! by: Brandy Shirley, M.A.
Robin,
Hello and thanks for taking the time to post your story. I can understand why you feel the way you do about not feeling good enough. It's also understandable why you are struggling with low self-esteem.
But you know what, you have decided to live a better life for yourself and your children. Be proud of the accomplishments and choices you've made thus far, because they are brilliant!
In time, you'll improve your self-esteem..it will just take some time, but it will happen for you..if you allow it!
The first place you need to start is- get your hands on all the self-help material that you can. Educate yourself on the differences between healthy and unhealthy relationships. Get to know yourself and like yourself for who you are.
This is something your mother and father never did, especially your mother. Her anger was a result of being frustrated and unhappy with herself. And unfortunately she took this unhappiness out on you.
So, my advice for you is..learn what you can about yourself and focus on improving your self worth..do this and you'll see your confidence and relationships will soar!
