House Cleaning Tips for the Overwhelmed Homeowner

These easy to follow house cleaning tips will leave you feeling refreshed, energized, and confident before you even get to the cleaning.

But, be forewarned...this article isn't about how to tackle the messy refrigerator in the kitchen or the disorganized closet in the bedroom. Instead, this article provides tips for stressed out people who are trying to clean up their messy, chaotic home.

House Cleaning Tips For...

  • The New Mother...
  • The new mother is the role model for adjustment, especially if she doesn't have support from family and/or friends during this challenging and rewarding time.

It seems that the woman is the one to clean the home, and when a new baby arrives, this makes it extremely challenging and overwhelming to carry on the cleaning role in the family.

In time, the cleaning process gets easier for the mother, but it's still a challenging role to play.

So how does the new mother handle all of her responsibilities? Easy...by putting them aside for a while! Although this makes sense at the time, the stress arrives when the new mother decides to tackle these responsibilities.

Here are a few house cleaning tips for the new mothers out there. The first tip... Prepare some meals beforehand and freeze them. Yeah, this isn't cleaning, but it's sure a lot easier to take something out of the freezer than it is to make a full meal..and there are less dishes to clean!

The second tip...hire some help and/or find some support. You will need it. Try not to tackle this all on your own. By reaching out for help, you're not only saving your sanity, you're spending quality time with your baby.

  • The Newlyweds...
  • So you and your new spouse are back from your honeymoon, full of love and excitement for your future.

Everything seems to be going great until... you are constantly cleaning up the other person's mess. You've told them how you feel about this and for whatever reason it seems to blow right over their head. Now what?

You're tired of being the responsible one so you stop picking up the mess. You think to yourself.."Ha, this will teach them. They'll get tired of seeing their crap on the floor and start picking up!" Instead, you're beginning to notice a pile of God knows what and it keeps getting bigger and bigger. "Is it time for a divorce?"

Don't worry this can be solved without getting a divorce...so by all means don't lose that love over a pile of stuff.

So here are some house cleaning tips... First, compliment..compliment..compliment! Anytime you notice your partner cleaning up after themselves (and you may need to look really hard), compliment them for doing so. Say, "You know I really appreciate the fact that you're taking the time to clean this up. Thank you."

The second tip..Love your partner anyway! Don't let anger and resentment bring stress into your home. Instead, put all of their crap into a garbage bag and put it in a special place until your lover notices their stuff is missing.

  • The Animal Lover...
  • Have you ever been to a house where you are about to eat and all of a sudden you're inhaling a ball of cat hair?

I've probably have had a few dinner guests like this myself, which is pretty embarrassing to admit. However, being an animal lover it's required that you spend some time on cleaning, unless you're okay with people backing out of your dinner invitations.

My tip is to devote a little time out of your day to clean up all the hair. Whether it be on the counter, on the furniture, or on your floor, don't let it build up until there are little fur balls laying around everywhere.

  • The Perfectionist...
  • Although perfectionists don't usually have messy homes, they often have messy thoughts and feelings about having an unclean home. I'm not talking about people who enjoy having a clean house, I'm talking about people who are obsessed with crumbs being on the floor and one piece of clothing needing washed.

So the house cleaning tips for the perfectionist are...use your time and energy to start cleaning up your messy thoughts first. While you're improving on your self-development, begin giving up one irrational house cleaning ritual everyday. An irrational house cleaning ritual is a cleaning habit that is interfering with your personal life.

  • The Possession Lover...
  • If you are attached to your belongings, you're probably attached to buying more things that can belong to you. This is a big problem when it comes to needing to clean your home. Before you know it your closets are full, your oven is full of pots and pans, there is little room to walk, and your garage and attic are stuffed to the max. It's almost impossible to give your home a nice, detailed clean with all that clutter.

But the most important cleaning tip for the possession lover is to first clean out the clutter in your mind. And when I talk about clutter, I'm referring to those nasty, negative thoughts that rule your life...you know which ones I'm talking about.

Just tell yourself..."I am enough without my stuff." This affirmation will get you moving toward the healthier way of living.

Overall, out of all the house cleaning tips, please remember this...Whenever you are cleaning, allow yourself to enjoy it! This will take the feeling of being stressed out and overwhelmed out of the equation.
