Gossip

My friend is gossiping about people when they aren't around. The things she says is mean and not true. She also makes up rumors and when she hears gossip she immediately starts to spread it. I want to tell her that she shouldn't gossip but i dont want her to get mad at me. Also if she talks bad about somebody when they aren't around does that mean she talks bad about me when i am not around? I am starting to think that. We are really good friends and dont want the relationship to end but i want her to stop gossiping. How can i talk to her without her getting mad at me? Please help! Thank you!
