Emotional Abuse
Signs
Emotional abuse
signs can vary, depending on what type of relationship
you are in. For instance, emotional abuse can appear differently during
childhood, during school with friends, at work with co-workers, with
family members, or with your significant other.
However, here are
some general
signs of emotional abuse, regardless of what type of relationship you
are in:
- Inability to
feel your emotions.
- Inability to
express yourself in a healthy manner.
- Anger/Hostility.
- Mental illnesses
(i.e. depression, anxiety).
- Low Self-Esteem.
These signs, I believe, are the biggest signs to look
for.
How
do you begin healing from emotional abuse?
- Become aware of
the emotions you are hiding from and why.
- Talking
kindly to yourself through the
process of developing awareness.
- Know that you
have the right to all of your emotions. You can be sad, happy, bored,
satisfied, excited, angry, etc.
- Talk to others.
Once you are aware of your emotions and that it's okay to feel the way
you do, you can communicate this to others.
- Allow others to
have their emotions and don't take their emotions personal. This piece
of advice is vital for your personal relationships.
The above signs of emotional abuse are there to help you
pay attention
to your emotions. If you are having any mental health or low
self-esteem issues, it may be best to pay attention to the
relationships you are in or whether or not you are communicating
in a healthy manner.
